South Florida Region Red Cross Kicks Off Fire Safety Campaign in Belle Glade
A fire in the home is the biggest disaster threat to American families. It’s more of a risk than floods, hurricanes, or tornadoes. The American Red Cross responds to a disaster every eight minutes and nearly all of these are home fires. The American Red Cross announced a new campaign in Belle Glade and across the country to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next five years.
Saturday volunteers spent part of the day educating residents in Belle Glade about fire safety and how to prevent fires in their residences. Palm Beach County first responders assisted by going door-to-door to speak with residents and to encourage them to allow smoke detectors installation in their homes.
Next week, volunteers and first responders will install smoke detectors in homes that do not currently have one and/or replace batteries in existing smoke detectors. Red Cross volunteers are the best volunteers!
