“I can understand what they’re going through”
As we continue to honor all of our volunteers during National Volunteer Week, today’s spotlight focuses on Norm Terry from the American Red Cross Martin County Chapter.
The story behind why Norm became a volunteer is a heartbreaking one. In the video below you’ll hear him talk about the tragedy that struck his family more than 40 years ago, and how he’s resolved to make sure no one else goes through a similar experience alone.
Through his involvement on the Disaster Action Team (DAT), Norm is part of the group of volunteers who respond to the scene of disasters to provide immediate assistance. Every 27 hours, DAT members across the region help our neighbors after a house fire, flood, hurricane or other disaster.
We’re inspired by the ways Norm turned such a sad disaster into a positive force for good, making sure he is there for other people during their hour of greatest, as a Red Cross volunteer.
